I built this kiln using Olsen's Kiln book design "Fast Fire".
This kiln reaches cone 10 in about ten to twelve hours. I
salt fire in this kiln which gives my work the warm wood/salt
fired body. It is nice firing with my new propane burner
addition which gives me the ability to concentrate on
salting. After I reach 1800 to 2000 degrees with wood, I
close my fireboxes and turn on my propane burners and
begin salting . I like to spray a salt water mix into the
chamber with a metal garden sprayer. This seems to allow
the salt to touch each and everything in the kiln. I also
scoop dampened salt with a piece of angle iron and dump
it through the burner ports. I feel my work reflects this
intense and exciting process.
